3 Backyard Decorating Trends You’ll Love

After a rollercoaster weather ride in March, we’re hoping April brings warmer temperatures that are here to stay. Because we don’t know about you, but we have spring fever, and we want to spend all the time we can outdoors. If you’re like most homeowners in Central Maryland, you’ve already done the spring cleanup of your yard, and now you’re looking at sprucing up your outdoor living spaces.

With that in mind, we’ve pulled together some backyard decorating trends we think you’ll love. Let’s get started.

Trend #1: Creating a Resort Retreat

If your house is your castle, your backyard is the palace grounds. More and more homeowners are embracing the trend of creating a resort retreat in their backyards. The easiest way to get the feel of a resort is to upgrade your patio furniture to include chaise lounges. Set them up poolside if you have an inground pool, or set them up in a separate area of the patio that gets plenty of sunshine.

Add a patio umbrella or two as well, along with some backyard décor that fits with your resort theme. Choose fun fabrics for the cushions, and coordinate the chaise lounges with the rest of your patio furniture. Think luxurious comfort. Be sure to include kid-sized options if you have small children. An outdoor beanbag rocking chair could be a great option.

Trend #2: Adding Privacy Screens

Whether you go with the resort theme or something modern or eclectic, everyone wants privacy. If you don’t want to build a privacy fence, you have other options. Consider planting a hedge of flowering shrubs, or fast-growing arborvitae.

You can also build or buy a privacy screen and train vining plants on it for a lush, tropical feel. Lowes, Home Depot, Amazon, and Wayfair all have beautiful options. Or hang a curtain at one end of the patio or deck to shield you and your guests from the nosy neighbors.

Trend #3: Adding a Big Screen TV to Your Outdoor Living Room

More and more people are outfitting their outdoor living room like the one inside the house. From comfy chairs and couches to the outdoor rug underfoot, the idea is to create a space for family game night, movie night, or a spot to watch your favorite sporting event. And to watch movies or sports, you need a big-screen TV. There are several great outdoor TV options to choose from. Just be sure to get it professionally installed.
